Business Career Requirements

While some careers have a very direct education path, that's not the case for business. The business world attracts graduates from a variety of degrees. A recent study showed that out of people in the business industry with college degrees, nearly half of those had a degree that was not specifically related to business. You will find people in this field that have a degree that's specifically related to their job, but you'll also find people with degrees in arts and science, education, psychology, and just about every other discipline.

Someone who is looking for a career in business should have good oral and written communication skills, strong problem solving skills, the ability to work with (and lead) a team, strong analytical skills, creative innovation to find alternative answers to problems, an intense drive to succeed, and related work experience. Business professionals must be able to articulate ideas and plans in many different ways - on paper, online, and in person.

Simply knowing you want a career in business isn't enough. There's not one standard "business" degree, but instead many degrees that fall under that umbrella. You're going to want to focus on a specific track. If you're trying for a career in this industry, find the degree that most closely matches your chosen profession. Often times though, you'll find that an undergraduate degree isn't enough for the business world. A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) is considered the pinnacle of education in this field. A person from any educational background can go on to get their MBA. A strong undergraduate degree coupled with a MBA can make for an impressive resume. People in the business world are constantly seeking a competitive advantage. You should do the same. Either working while you're in college or taking an internship after school can supply you with valuable "real world" experiences that employers are seeking. This is an extremely competitive field, and you've got to do all you can to differentiate yourself from your competition.

A career in business can be a very financially rewarding career, and is a perfect fit for people who are constantly wanting to better themselves.
